Data Sphere is open

From today Data Sphere is open to everyone, with commercial satellite imagery from several suppliers through one API and licences the platform enforces.

Today we are opening Data Sphere to everyone. If you buy or use satellite imagery, you can start at datasphere.astrodynamic.space.

Why we built it

Anyone who has bought Earth Observation data knows the routine. Each supplier has its own portal, its own licence, its own file format and its own idea of what a scene’s metadata should contain. Comparing two of them for one area of interest can take days of emails before you see a single image, and integrating a second supplier means doing the engineering again from scratch.

Data Sphere does that work once. Suppliers are connected to the platform, their catalogues are standardised, and you reach all of them through one API and one STAC format. When one supplier cannot cover an area or a date, another often can, and your code does not change.

The licence is the permission

The part we are proudest of is how Data Sphere handles licensing. On most marketplaces the licence is a document you agree to and then the platform carries on regardless. In Data Sphere the signed agreement sets your permissions in the code itself. If your licence covers one tier of use, imagery licensed for other uses never reaches your search results. If an agreement has not been signed, the basket stays closed. If the platform cannot confirm your entitlement, it refuses rather than assumes.

For a bank, an insurer or a government buyer, that is the difference between hoping the data was used within its terms and knowing it was.

Who is on it

You can search in plain English, by drawing an area on the map or by uploading a shapefile, from the web app, the REST API or our MCP server for AI agents. Every scene carries a Quality Award grading its metadata, and its licence terms are shown before you commit.

Who it is for

We have built Data Sphere first for financial services and insurance, where imagery is used to price risk and to check what is really on the ground. It is also built for defence and security, energy and petrochemicals, agriculture and maritime.

If you supply imagery or build analytics on it, Data Sphere puts your work in front of buyers you would not otherwise reach, under terms you set and the platform enforces. Write to us at info@astrodynamic.space.

Thank you to the UK Space Agency, Space South Central and SETsquared, whose programmes helped us get here. We would love to hear what you find.
